Logitech Harmony 555 Universal Remote Control
RRP: £71.51 Our Price: £79.99 (subject to change)
My best purchase in recent years. Review date: 2010-09-06 Rating: 10 out of 10
I'll make this review simple.
I have a Samsing TV, a Sony amplifier and a "ZON" (TIVO) set top box, before I had to use the TV remote to put it on, the amplifier remote to put it on and in the right input and the TIVO remote to put it on and change channels, this required 3 different remotes and lot's of trouble to put everything working, I alse needed the amplifier remote and the TIVO remote all the time, one to change sound and the other to change the channels.
Then I bought this, now I puch ONE SINGLE BUTTON and everything starts and sets in the right position, I use only one remote to control the TIVO channels and Sony amplifier with no extra effort, if I want to play PS3 then I only need to push a single button again and what isn't needed shuts off and the other stuff changes to the correct settings.
It's a marvelous remote, very easy to configure and to use, it feels great on the hand and it illuminates itself when you pick it (you can change this on the remote if you don't like it).
You can't go wrong with this product.

ReviewsA waste of time and moneyReview date: 2010-07-31 Rating: 2 out of 10I bought this as a replacement for an excellent Sony model (nla) after the rubber keys wore out. Setting up the device is very complicated and usually needs online assistance from Harmony, especially if one or more of your devices are not on Harmony's database. Performance was erratic and unreliable, even after repeated calls to Harmony. Worse still, the device frequently froze completely, with all the keys locking. I finally replaced it with a Philips Prestigo universal remote, which by contrast is a joy to use and utterly reliable, being the best universal remote I have encountered to date.Very pleasedReview date: 2010-07-12 Rating: 8 out of 10I am really pleased with this product. At this price, both asthetically and feature wise it is great.
In addition, the Logitech help line is very good indeed. I had a couple of tricky configuration issues, I hasten to add because of the way that my TV seeks the external input, but the Help desk were extremely helpful on both occasions that i needed to call.
Be aware, that you do need to spend a bit of time with the set up.
However, because it is set up via your PC it meaans that Logitech can help conigure your settings over the internet if there are any teething problems.
In my case one of the solutions ended up needing to be a compromise, (because of the way my Hitachi TV operates) but one that we can easily live with. Overall this product and the service from Logitech has been extremely good and i feel that i have made a good choice.
Best remote I've ever usedReview date: 2010-07-10 Rating: 10 out of 10This is my first ever review of an item bought through Amazon although I've bought a lot over the years so it shows what I think of it. I have had 2 previous universal remotes in the past and this knocks the spots off both of them.
Having recently moved to Virgin from Sky I was frustrated by having to use a TV remote as the Virgin remote did not want to change volume of the TV and the Sony TV needed to be put on AV4 when turning it on, the Virgin HD Box remote and a remote for the amp of the theatre system - this was even more complex when using the Blu Ray DVD player as this added a 4th remote!
I looked at a number of universal remotes and read the feedback from all of them and ultimately bought this one. My review would be as follows
It can't be used out of the box and does need setting up - but if you know the details of the remotes you are using e.g. Virgin V+Box HD and Sony KDL (whatever the number is) etc. its easy. The instructions say you should allow 45 minutes but even allowing for the 10 minutes it took to find the relevant details of the pieces of kit I was trying to control it took less than 30 minutes.
All you do is load the CD and download the software, go into it and tell it the relevant details and it does the rest!
Whats really good is that you can then either use it (as I do) to turn on (and off) the TV, Virgin box and amp with one button push - as it sets this up for you just by telling it what equipment needs turning on and what input is required on your TV (e.g. AV4 in my case), and then it knows that you will be using the remote to control the Virgin box and the volume is from the amp (it also sets up watching DVD's and will switch the input on the amp and change the input on the TV to the DVD player with one button push even when watching TV first) or by pressing the "devices" button at the top of the remote - it allows you full functionality of each seperate remote. The setting up of the "activities" you need is easy and is well explained with the software walking you through each stage and the setting up of devices is the same with a different section of the software.
With this set up all of the usual functions are where you would expect them to be with the fast forward, rewind, record functions etc working fully with no further need to set up.
If you prefer to have buttons rather than the screen menu (at the top of the remote) control things such as the V+ service or the "back" function - this is easy to set up in the devices area of the software.
The other good thing is that it is a good size, shape and feel - not big and clumsy like some of the older universal remotes - I'd say it was an ideal size - that said the number buttons at the bottom are a little smaller than I'm used to on a remote but are no worse than those on a mobile phone. I did seem to note that one of the previous feedbacks said that the remote did not have the coloured buttons (red, green, yellow, blue) - but it does and they work perfectly.
I now have played with the set up and can control everything I want easilly and with only one remote! The other originals are now in a drawer and I fell back in control!
All in all I'd really recommend this product - its a good price and does a great job easilly and quickly - you will need a computer to programme it though (but I guess anyone reading this has one anyway!). Don't look any further buy it!Simply Brilliant...Review date: 2010-06-27 Rating: 10 out of 10Bought this to replace 4 remotes (TV, Shy HD, Amp and PS3). Took 15/20 min to set up through my mac and have had no issues for the past 5 weeks I have been using this.
Very intuitive and something you will not regret spending your money on!
