Sony CMTGS30DAB DAB Micro System
Rubbish sound!
Review date: 2009-03-22 Rating: 2 out of 10
Very very disappointed with this....the sound is awful, hardly any bass and sounds so tinny and harsh! Certainly NOT 70 WATTS X2 as stated on box and NOT EVEN THE 50 WATTS X2 AS STATED IN AMAZON DESCRIPTION!!!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING THIS...YOU WILL ONLY END UP RETURNING IT AS I HAVE HAD TO DO!

Terrible sound qualityReview date: 2008-11-09 Rating: 2 out of 10I have two other Sony systems - one expensive and one cheap - and have been happy with both. This one, however, sounds truly awful in comparison. First of all I thought it was the quality of the DAB reception, then I tried CDs and line input which were only fractionally better; I checked all the sound options but it offers only 4 built-in equaliser options all of which seem very similar. Checked and double checked all connections and settings as I still couldn't believe it's meant to sound like this. Finally I resorted to placing the speakers on a high shelf as that seemed to be the only way to reduce the overbearing yet flat bass and get the illusion of at least a bit of treble. But, it does go very loud indeed, and I suspect that's the point where it may begin to sound acceptable (if you stand a long way away)A bit of a let down!Review date: 2008-08-17 Rating: 6 out of 10I've had this unit for a year now and well... I personally like the look of it and the build quality seems good, having all the buttons down the side does make the front look clean and uncluttered but the layout is not at all intuitive, I always have to look to see what I am pressing, but I use the remote mostly I guess.
DAB reception is perfect, even with the supplied 'aerial', the same for FM reception as well. The CD player also seems pretty decent, skipping to different tracks quickly - if only it didn't sound like there was a 2 stroke engine spinning the disc! I'm with all the other reviewers when it comes to sound quality. At low volume levels it's not very exciting and sounds pretty weak and thin but at higher volumes (half way up the volume scale and over) I find it comes to life giving a good refined/polite sound, the bass isn't too heavy, the higher areas not shrieking in your ears. I've compared this hi-fi against an older Sony model and at higher volumes this one gives the better sound. This is all good but how often do you want to annoy your neighbours by listening to loud music? In all honesty I wish I had taken it back, but I've left it too late now, for £100 it's a good system, but for the £150 I paid, I wish I had seen something else. Last time I buy something without fully researching the product!Great Looks Ruined by Poor Sound Quality.Review date: 2008-01-25 Rating: 4 out of 10I wanted to purchase a second smaller HiFi for use in the Study, and decided to buy the Sony. Our main HiFi/Home Cinema set up is all Sony,as is the 42" Plasma TV. I awaited the Sony CMT30GSDAB's arrival with anticipation. On connecting it all up, the Sound Quality through the supplied "Full Range" Speakers was truly AWFUL.The sound was tinny and thin with no Bass or Warmth at all.I even swapped the speakers for a pair of Tannoy Fusion 2's which made very little difference. There are no Bass and Treble controls on the unit, just 4 switchable digital sound enhancement Modes which are even worse!! I have sent the Sony back for a refund,as I felt it was just not fit for the purpose of providing decent sounding music.I listen mainly to Classic FM radio and Classical CD's. I bought another unit from the Amazon Marketplace Seller Pixmania - the Philips MCM760 on the basis of favourable online reviews. The Philips is quite simply OUTSTANDING. The sound Quality is Rich and Powerful from this 2 x 75 Watts RMS Unit, and although there are PROPER Bass and Treble Controls on the Unit, there is really no need to use them. The Philips is BRILLIANT and comes at a VERY GOOD Price!! It has been recently discontinued, so buy one quickly before it is too late! You Pays Your Money.....Review date: 2008-01-15 Rating: 6 out of 10I agree with "Dougiew" about the sound. I bought this unit because it was Sony and to replace my CMT-NE3 which doesn't have DAB.The speakers are supposed to be 2x75watts but yet my old 2x25watts sounds richer and has more depth to the sound. As I am using this unit in the kitchen and it is not my only music source, I am not disappointed enough to return it!I thought that the price I paid was very good-delivery free and good value for the price I got it for- it was up to £30 more at other places. You pays your money and you makes your choice-£120 is ok.
