Philips AE5900/05 - DAB Clock Radio
quality, some niggles
Review date: 2010-04-28 Rating: 8 out of 10
looks and feels high quality - nice display, nice aluminium trim, nice leather, feels solid. sound is superb and auto-tunes easily - good DAB reception in an area often difficult to get a signal. BUT the screen is too bright and cannot be dimmed, so if being used in a bedroom/as an alarm, it lights up the whole room. also volume starts quiet and gets louder and louder waking up the whole house and the neighbours, and cant find a way to stop this either. overall happy, but not perfect!

Barely over a year old and DAB is deadReview date: 2010-04-03 Rating: 2 out of 10I will keep this review short as the lifespan of this product is also. Beyond the annoyances listed in the other reviews, my radio has gone a year and now cant detect any DAB radio stations. Strange, since a Pure ONE brand radio is sat next to it and managing fine. Please don't waste your money. Philips used to be world leaders in radio. But now they seem to churn out half finished tat.
Don't do itIf you want an alarm clock radio, don't buy this one!Review date: 2009-08-17 Rating: 2 out of 10The radio alarm comes on at volume 10 and it can't be adjusted. If you're hard of hearing or a heavy sleeper it's perfect for you otherwise don't buy it. If you're just after a lovely looking and sounding radio without the radio alarm function, this is the one for you. You've been warned!Getting There...Review date: 2009-08-04 Rating: 8 out of 10Just received mine. It found 18 stations initially and none were the BBC ones. Had a fiddle with the aerial position and rescanned and it found them but right now the aerial's positioned to poke me in the eye when I get out of bed so I can get R5L but I'll persist...
Tested the alarm with the buzzer and that's great-it gets louder till you hit Snooze !! A good idea.
As others have said the presets are a nuisance but once I checked here it was a breeze. Find your station, hit Preset and arrow to the one you want it on and hit Preset again and HOLD it till confirmation pops up. Works the same on DAB and FM.
The dimming setting is a misdescription as it's basically on or off. I read here it's bright at night but that won't bother me as I sleep facing away from the clock anyway (I hope) !!
Adding a PS a few days later. It stopped working the same day. The power pack is the problem so I need to get another. Thankfully they're a reasonable price and better that than return it to Germany where I got it. A shame as the radio itself is super.
I managed to get all the stations I wanted too with the aerial in a place that won't blind me now as well.Nice sounding DAB, but..........Review date: 2009-06-29 Rating: 8 out of 10This radio has an excellent sound especially compared to my last one, can't even remember what it was it was that rubbish, and expensive to boot.
Now the but, and it's only a little but, how on earth do you program the presets. Both myself and a friend, who I recommended this radio to, can't work it out!! Any pointers will be much appreciated.
