Room for ImprovementReview date: 2009-08-06 Rating: 6 out of 10I saw this radio on special offer in a shop and bought it on impulse. That was a mistake. I should have resisted and done some research first. There are better internet radios available for around the price I paid. It works OK but the way it works is not that good. I agree with many of the critical comments of other reviewers about presets, volume, portability, awkward buttons etc but I've not had any random behaviour/malfunction issues. What particularly irritates me is operating the device. The display and press buttons are on the front of the case. They would be much better located on the top. This would mean you wouldn't have to crane your neck to see the display or use two hands to press the buttons (one for anchoring). I'm glad I bought an internet radio but I think I should have bought a different model. The Bush TR2015 seems to be better designed and has good reviews. Bush TR2015WIFI Radio
ReviewsShocking Piece of KitReview date: 2009-01-09 Rating: 2 out of 10Disastrous. Bizarrely, this thing turns itself ON when it feels like it, which is like having a mad ghost in the house- albeit a ghost with a poor reception who only makes any sound less than half the time.
On top of that, even the buttons don't feel like buttons- basic stuff, I would have thought- and having six preset stations (spread over a grand total of three buttons, of course) is just nonsense. The sound (when it works) is like listening to Atlantic Radio on Longwave- welcome back to a muffled 1988, everyone.
Do NOT buy it- you are genuinely better off not having an internet radio at all, than having this triumph of frustration and annoyance. You Could Buy Better - Much BetterReview date: 2009-01-05 Rating: 4 out of 10Firstly - set up - relatively quick and easy - even when dealing with a complex WPA key like mine (hence 2 stars instead of 1)!
Now, the bad bits.
According to the radio, there are over 1200 UK stations alone. It offers just SIX presets! If you want any other channels you have to scroll through the list of 1200 to select them manually.
Power - not only are there no batteries, but it does not use a standard power lead (cord) with an in-built transformer - instead it uses a large combined plug/transformer with a 9v jackplug into back of radio. There is no excuse - the case is quite large enough to hold the transformer and this makes it ungainly.
Given the power limitations, it is fair to say it is not portable - just as well, as there is no carry handle either. Given wireless does travel, it would not be unreasonable to want to move this between rooms (and remember as mains only, certain rooms are out).
Finally, the radio does drop out - however, without further investigation I would not blame the radio as opposed to my AP or more likely ISP.
Flippin' marvellous but check your routerReview date: 2009-01-02 Rating: 8 out of 10A word of warning/advice:
My cable router is managed by a nifty piece of software called Network Magic. Before the radio could access the router, the software had to unlock it. Then I set up the link, after which the software relocked the router.
Other than that, I agree with the doctor who said it was a quiet performer but I also challenge anyone to find better value for around £40.Dont waste your moneyReview date: 2008-12-24 Rating: 2 out of 10My radio did not work and repeatedly turns itself off, restarts, locks up and turns itself off. This must be a design fault as another reviewer had the same problem. It is bulky and the build quality is cheap. And only 6 preset stations for 4000 internet stations! Mine is going back.
