Don't dither, buy it.Review date: 2010-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10I have two of these, my wife has one. They are excellent little things: easy to set up, easy to use, they take up less space than a small block of super market cheese. I attach to it two iTB Hitachi Simple Drives which contain my DVD collection, all my mucic, tens of thousands of photogaphs hundreds of videos of our grandchildren and a host of stuff from You Tube. It takes the device fifteen seconds to load the lot. Picture and sound quality is superb. The menus are neat and easy to use. The remote is small but rubust and easy to navigate and use, though it's a shame the keys are not illuminated. If you need to save space or are fed up of trying to locate a CD or DVD one of these will make your life esier.Happy CustomerReview date: 2010-08-30 Rating: 10 out of 10Bought this Western Digital media player recently to connect to my new HD TV so i can watch my films and pictures from my external hard drive.
This is brilliant. It does the job and its very compact so can take it anywhere with me.
Would easily recommend it to anyone who is thinking of getting one. :)Sound is not in sync with video when playing MP4 files - MPEG files are fineReview date: 2010-08-27 Rating: 8 out of 10Initially I thought this product was fabulous. However I discovered that if you fast forward an MP4 file the becomes about 4 seconds out of sync with the video on the screen. The MP4 file plays perfectly using QuickTime. This problem seems quite common - lots on forums. I ordered a second one of these but am now returning it. It is a shame because this flaw really is critical in my opinion.
Update - I have now found out that the sound sync is not an issue if you save your video as MPEG files. However, for feature films this will result in files that are larger than a FAT32 formatted drive can handle (ok on a mac drive but media players such as this and the PS3 need FAT32). So you need to split the MPEG file into less than 4GB portions (various applications for the mac are avilable to do this - type "spilt files on a mac" into Google. So great product as long as you keep away from MP4 files.I don't have an upgrade icon on my screen.Review date: 2010-08-27 Rating: 2 out of 10I don't have an upgrade icon on my screen, i did everything the tutorials said with no success, it just doesn't appear.
